Psychiatric Eval?

After the first appointment with the doctor, I had to go see a dietician and a psychiatrist. What? Psychiatric Eval? Do they think I'm crazy for having surgery? I didn't quite get it. 9-15 was the appointment with the dietician. She was nice. She showed my husband and I how big a portion was, it didn't look that bad. It was a big ol' scoop of mashed potatoes. The appointment lasted about an hour. All in all it was good, however she didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know.

My mom and I made the 1 1/2 hour drive to the psychiatric appointment on 9-17. What a waste of time! I was in his office 10 minutes tops. It took us 1 1/2 hours for a 10 minute appointment. All he asked me was the typical questions I had answered hundreds of times...How long have you been overweight? Are you depressed? Why are you having surgery? Do you realize this is a lifestyle change? Ok, your good to go. I'll write your letter later today. Bye!

Anyway, you gotta do all the appointments, so there, now they're done. Now all there was to do was wait, until January! Right before Christmas, Diane called me at work to say that my insurance, Blue Choice, had approved my surgery. Woohoo! Now all I could do was be nervous. My husband and I went over and over it again. I wanted to back out, he was supportive, he wanted me to back out, I was supportive. We finally agreed it was the best decision for us at the time.

1-6-04 was horrible! First you can only have clear liquids for 24 hrs. before surgery. An entire day of jello, broth, and water. YUCK! After 12am you couldn't have anything to eat or drink. Wouldn't have been so bad except my surgery wasn't until noon! I was hungry and nervous, really really nervous. Finally I went into the operating room, counted backwards from 10 to 8 and was asleep.
